Bargain Bras ... ????

I've always kinda envied girls who are not so well endowed in the chest area ... the ability to find a cute blouse that fits, not worrying about looking trashy when wearing a plunging neckline, and being able to find a bargain bra that looks pretty.

So, when I saw that New Look were doing a range of bras in DD-G, I was super stoked!  I ordered this one the moment I saw it on ASOS ... I mean, it is only £12.99

Now the pattern is cute.  But that is where my enthusing ends.

This bra is awful.  The moment I opened the parcel I was concerned by the quality of the bra - it just screamed cheap!

Trying it on only worsened my opinion of the piece.  Cup size was no-where near the G cup promised by the label.   I'm frequently fluctuation between a G and GG but this was more than a little too tight. My chest barely fitted in the cups meaning my boobs became flattened downwards ... I don't know about you, but I really dislike the boobs squashed down the knees look!

Not only this, but the back band was as elastic as a hair band - the ping effect of this bra is the dream of a 14 year old boy!

The elasticity meant that the band was at once too big and too small for me.  At the front, the bra gaped open beneath my boobs, sitting a good inch away from my skin.  From behind, it appeared to dig in and constrict my back.  The straps also dug into my flesh yet pulled easily away from my back by a good 4inches when tugged.

I feel I could have gone up (or down) several sizes in the back and experience the exact same problem.

Needless to say, the bra offered no support and I can't say I can find one redeeming feature about this thing.

The bra is safely on its way back to the ASOS warehouse and I will probably not venture near another New Look bra any time soon.

What about you, have you ever found a bargain bra to sing about?

  1. Shockingly my two Newlook bras are amazing, granted not the *best* fit but they do the job and make my boobs look pretty good! Really shocked as that bra on the photo and the structure looks like it'd be so supportive!
George are pretty good for budget bras! xxxx

  3. It's a shame that this bra was such bad quality as it is a really cute pattern. I can't believe that the band is such bad quality as that is the main support of a bra for big boobed girls. I have never found any bargains in bras due to I can't find bras in my size at all...I'm a 40 N cup, but have to use 40KK or 40L so not much to chose from. I have to compromise with bras all the time so it is a nightmare... I can't afford to get custom made bras from Rigby and Pellar so I get the biggest bras in sale do.

  5. I saw this bra on ASOS a bunch of times and couldn't find any reviews of it. You should list it on Bratabase! Anyway, I'm so glad you posted this because I was wondering about the quality or if I should even bother with New Look bras at all. It looks so cute in the stock photo and the pattern is adorable. Too bad!

  6. Dear Charli, I totally agree that this bra doesn't fit well at all. It's a shame, because I recently bought a few bras from the New Look that fit me very well. I haven't tried this model bra though. To me it looks like the worst model bra they sell at the New Look store. What I noticed is that they skip the FF cup in the DD-G range. I am not from the UK and where I live the bra sizing is different, but as far as I know there should be a FF between the F and G cup. I have a difficult size, because I have a small band size (30-32) and a relatively big cup size. I was surprised about the fit when I tried on this bra http://www.newlook.com/eu/shop/womens/lingerie/cream-dd-g-lace-t-shirt-bra_332143113
The 32 band was snug and the wires where not too wide (and therefore not cutting into my sides). The center core was lying flat and it gave me a good shape. The only thing I didn't like was the lace that could have been a little softer and less cheap looking. I understand that you don't like the mesh band, but for me it was perfect. The mesh doesn't stretch as much as other fabrics used for the band of bras. This bra worked for me, but that doesn't mean it will work for everybody. I think that pretty much all NL bras will be too small in the cup for you, since they skip the FF. I think all women who don't have an 'average' bra size have problems finding well fitting bras in store. People come in different sizes and shapes and it's about time that the retail industry stops ignoring that.
You look great in those lingerie sets :-)
