A Curvy Girl's 5 Key Pieces for A/W

I'm no longer walking around the house in silk short shorts and scrappy camisoles - I've retreated to golf socks and a wooly dressing gown.  This means Autumn is here!

This also means I retreat into dark inky clothing with the odd jewel tone thrown in to prove I'm not a complete convert of the gothic!  I've already dug out my pleather leggings and polished the dust off last winters black leather knee-highs but what items should I invest in this year?

1. Heritage Tailoring

Every one knows I go a little gaga over country clothing - I'm as comfy in my mouldy wax as I am in my 6 inch L. K. Bennetts.

But how do you take heavy tweeds and waxed cottons from the mud-drenched fields of Oxfordshire to the meeting room before heading out for lunch with the girls? You invest in a well tailored tweed blazer of course!
Left to right: Joules Cressida Fur Collar Tweed Blazer; Orvis Donegal Tweed Stand-Collar Jacket; Next Harris Tweed Blazer
The rules? Keep colour neutral, fit tight, waist cinched.  I love pairing tweed with skinny black trousers and heels for a more formal occasion, or indigo jeans, knee high boots and a bright coloured pashmina for more casual events.

2.  Wide Leg Pants

For some reason, trousers always become pants when I throw in a wide leg!  It makes me think of Charlie Chaplin with wide legs, braces, and his extravagant man-tashe.    I fell in love with the wide leg at the end of last year with a plain pair of high-waisted, black pants that I wore with roll necks and high heels when attending conferences in a frightfully cold state-side January.

This year, I plan to expand my range.

3. The Suede Ankle Boot

The 70s are big right now - and you don't get more 70s than suede boots!  I'm lusting after inky hued suede with a chunky, high heel.

Left to right: River Island Grey suede lock heeled ankle boots; Ted & Muffy Gleam; New Look Dark Red Zip Side Heeled Boots
I love the inky blue Ted & Muffy chelsea boots that come in multiple width and are sure to see you through winter.  I'd pair with coloured tights and mini skirts or teamed with flared trousers.  I think they'd look particularly cute peeking out from beneath the red wide leg pants featured above!

4. The Folk Print Dress

I'm talking all things paisley and nice!  Midi hemlines worn above knee-high boots - whats not to love?

Left to right: Monsoon Keeva Print Dress; Simply Be High Neck Stretch Jacquard Jersey Dress; Marks & Spencer Floral Patchwork Dress

5. The Satchel

I've always been a tote girl ... yet this season, I really want a tan leather satchel.  Something that can be distressed slightly and double as a camera bag.

Left to right: The Oxford Bag Company Maxi Leather Satchel in Tan; Pieces Double Strap Satchel Cross Body Bag from ASOS; New Look Brown Soft Trim Satchel

Do you have an A/W must have list?  I'd love to know what everyone else is coveting for the coming months!

  1. So good to have you back miss Charli you were missed! I'm all about the folksy dresses and ankle boots. And I might try some wide leg pants too! I just love the autumnal palette. Good for my colouring x
