A Plus-Size (Almost) Little Black Dress

It's November, so I can officially say it: CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!!

The next two months are filled with endless dinner dates, drinks with friends, fancy parties and black tie events.  This means my wardrobe gets a real rollicking and a new little black dress is always a welcome addition to see me through the winter months and this marble and black print dress from Elvi is a new take on the season's LBD.

The Elvi Marble Print Zip dress is a very classic dress for winter: a simple shift with a high hemline.  The subtle, marble print pattern on the front of the dress and the gold zip neck detail make the dress more modern with a little edge.

I was, at first, disappointed that the print doesn't speak to the back of the dress too.  However, once trying the dress on this disappointment was forgotten.  I love the swoop of the neck at the back, the flash of gold with the revealed zip, and the way the material seems to really emphasise my own little bit of junk in the trunk!

Shift dresses aren't always for me - they can be too boxy and hide my waistline rather too much and, as you will see in later pictures, this is the case when I wear this dress without the addition of a belt. However, there is a lazy elegance to this dress that I love.

The short skirt, slouched neck and soft material are both comfortable and elegant.  The adjustable zip neck means you can ease the dress to fall casually off a shoulder and the print feels luxurious in its simplicity.

One of my musts for the winter party season is versatility, and this dress has it in steeps.  I love nothing more than a dress that can be worn to the office with a blazer, to the cocktail with a sparkly belt and clutch, and the pub with chunky boots and a knit.

I feel this dress will shine on all occasions, but here I have dressed it for a cocktail bar with high heels, a golden belt, a snakeskin clutch and some oversize gem earrings.

I took some photos of the dress without belt too - so you can see the natural fit and hang of the dress.

The dress was originally priced at £55 but is currently on sale for just £38.50 ... did I hear someone say bargain?   They also have a 3/4 sleeved version which I think is rather perfect if you would like to stay a little warmer during the winter months.

I'm wearing the 18, which true my shape is big on my waist and fits well on my chest, hips, and shoulders.   It is available in sizes 14 - 26.
