Now, kimono style dresses with high neck and a boxy shape isn't my normal style. My wardrobe is dominated by v-necks and skater dresses but I have recently browed to push the boundaries and try new shapes and styles.
I bought the Plus Oriental Floral Kimono Tunic Dress in size 18 and the sizing was rather off on me.
The top half of the dress was really too large - I think this is mostly deliberate due to the style of the boxy kimono sleeves but the bottom half of the dress wasn't in balance with this and was very tight across my hips. The waist was also gapingly large on me so the addition of a skinny white belt was really needed!
That said, I love the oriental print and, on a woman with less extremes to her boob-waist-hip ratio, I think this dress would look really quite something!
I love that the skirt is kept relatively short to really show of those pins - a feature that is really needed when the top half is so conservatively covered. It looks great with staggering heels (I really did have to pull out my Jimmy Choos for this dress) or with simple flip flops if you wanted to wear it for sauntering about town on a sunny summer day.
The dress isn't lined, which is always a disappointment to me, but the material is thick enough to prevent and transparency and the light weight material hangs nicely without any sticking to the skin.
The dress has a zip to the rear but pulled on easily without need for the zip.
The dress is priced at £45 which feels a reasonable price for a dress that is so versatile and feels, on the whole, very well made.
Unfortunately, the poor fit on my figure means that I returned the dress but that is by no means a negative, it simply didn't fit my awkward body.
What do you think of this dress? Would you give it a try?
That is so lovely Charli! I'm so glad M&S have upped their game. xx
